If you wanted to add horror and tension do what you did at the 2/3rds part of the game add an atmosphere and actual Horror not annoying gimmicky mechanics. By allowing the player to find a way to play the game to their comfort level and then forcing them to rush through the ending I think is a poor mechanic. I could not find the ammo and health I needed and almost soft locked myself. X chasing you in the last level and it makes it more annoying than challenging. The other aspect that they have in this game is forcing the player to rush to the end of the game. I know it was 360, and yeah the expectations were a little older but at the end of the day I expect better considering games that came out 4 years earlier look better than this game. Honestly it does not look great for 2011.
Now I cannot give this game a perfect 10 for a couple of reasons. “There were no enemies before, why should there be any now” and then BOOM.
You can hear them, you think you can see them, but at the end of the day there are zero enemies until you enter a massive room and at least my mind was racing. Through a majority of the game it is throwing enemies at you giving some basic puzzles but around every corner giving you a small scare to keep hitting your fight or flight instances but around 2/3rds of the way through the game they hit you with a curve ball they put you in a location in which there are no enemies. 9h 28m PlayedDead Space 2 is a master class in atmosphere.
